‘The Waiting Room’

In 'The Waiting Room' Gordon McNair is on his way from Edinburgh to Newcastle to meet his hysterical young mistress, Veronica, who is pregnant. He intends to persuade her to have an abortion. On the way, due to his own impatience and fear  that Veronica will tell his wife, Sarah, about the situation, Gordon crashes his car and is killed.
He awakens to find himself in a waiting room 'on the other side'. He is to be evaluated before being assigned to an appropriate place. He  is shown glimpses of his past life and is told that he will probably have to be 'rehabilitated'. However, it turns out that Gordon, although clinically dead, has been kept artificially alive on a life support system, and he returns to find himself in a hospital bed, paralysed from the neck down. And that's not all...

A computer engineer at a British computer firm, has devised a program that makes  use of subliminal techniques to cause people who log on to the company's website  to buy their shares and sell competitors' shares. The program mutates and  disappears into the virtual reality of the World Wide Web where it is discovered by the 2002 series of computers at Internet base-stations throughout the world. They take it over and play havoc with world markets, with surprising results.
